We are a venture-funded recreation technology (rec-tech) start up with the mission to bring table tennis to every urban neighborhood. We are building a network of autonomous table tennis pods. Currently, we have 3 fully operational pods in New York City and are actively building another 4 pods in Astoria (Queens), the Upper East Side (Manhattan), Downtown Brooklyn and Philadelphia – with many more to come.

Current Openings

We are seeking a Director of Events who is capable of building an Events Department within PingPod almost from scratch. PingPod receives a consistent flow of inbound event requests, from kids birthday parties, to corporate events, to other random occasions. The DoE will be responsible for fielding, planning, and executing these events to completion.

In addition to inbound inquiries, we want to become more proactive in lassoing on-site events in. Together, these two objectives requires building a Department capable of handling a considerable flow of events and all of the high touch customer service, marketing efforts, and logistics that come with it.

Responsibilities

  • Close interactions with clients
  • Inbound requests: answer questions in detail
  • Explain PingPod’s versatile event offerings
  • Outbound: salesmanship necessary
  • Articulately explain the PingPod concept and why our facilities make for great event spaces
  • Plan on-site and off-site events for clients
  • Work with the client to meet their wants and objectives
  • Work with the team internally to schedule and plan logistics
  • Work with outside companies/vendors to meet clients objectives
  • Execute on-site and off-site events
  • Physically be present when necessary
  • When not physically present – see to it that all moving pieces are in place
  • Troubleshoot and problem solve when necessary
  • See the event through to successful and safe completion
  • Keep close track of all cash flow associated with events
  • Build an events P&L model tracker
  • Forecast model
  • Work collaboratively with other Department Heads
  • To conduct events in harmony with the other PingPod operations
  • Collect feedback from clients to continuously improve the events business

Building a Department

The aforementioned responsibilities are baseline expectations. We are seeking a business leader who is capable of building a department that can handle a growing events “business within a business” as PingPod expands. Building a department requires leadership skills, resourcefulness, great attention to detail, a high dose of dedication and hard work. Thus, we are seeking an entrepreneurial person who can handle a high degree of responsibility.

Desired Background

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Several years of events or related experience preferred
  • Extremely strong organizational skills required
  • Extremely strong communication and interpersonal skills required
  • Tech & software savvy
  • Strong Microsoft suite skills
  • Ability to take constructive feedback from both internal and external stakeholders

We are seeking an Events Coordinator (EC) who will be responsible for facilitating and executing mostly on-site events at our various locations in New York City through to completion. The EC will field inbound event request as well as proactively generate event leads. PingPod receives a consistent flow of inbound event requests for kids birthday parties, to corporate events, to internal team events, and other various occasions. The goal is to organize unforgettable events that will ensure the entertainment of participants and facilitate the completion of business objectives.

Role and responsibilities include

  • Frequent communication with clients
    • Inbound event requests – answer questions in detail and sell the PingPod concept
    • Articulately enumerate PingPod’s versatile event offerings and features
  • Plan on-site and off-site events for clients
    • Work with the client to meet their objectives
    • Work with the team internally to schedule and plan logistics
    • Work with outside companies/vendors to meet clients objectives
  • Execute on-site and off-site events
    • Physically be present when necessary (often not required)
    • When not physically present, ensure that all moving pieces are in place
    • Troubleshoot and problem solve when necessary
    • See the event through to successful and safe completion
    • Ensure liability waivers and other insurance requirements are met
  • Keep careful records of cash flow associated with events
    • Upcoming events detailed and organized in a shared calendar
    • Past events
  • Work collaboratively with other Departments

Coaching

Our National Coaches are all current or former top level players in the country and some, in the world. To become a National Coach you need to have a track record of results at a National level as either a player or a coach, as well as some international experience.

Ideal coaches should:

  • Be dependable and on time
  • Love table tennis
  • Love to teach
  • Have high emotional intelligence and be able to coach all kinds of students of all levels and backgrounds
  • Have experience working with kids (if you are interested in coaching kids)
  • Be a team player – at PINGPOD we share students if needed
  • Have a rating or level equivalent of at least 2350 for National Coaches (exceptions can be made on individual basis depending on previous ratings and experience)
  • Be tech savvy
  • Be SafeSport compliant, updated on a yearly basis
  • Willingness to develop and grow, and receptive to feedback

To become a club coach at PINGPOD we want you to be engaged in the community, love to meet new people and introducing them to the sport. Our Club Coaches are all experienced players on a local level and have the basic understanding for the game and it’s techniques.
